| Mercury in Bulgaria Breaks Four Temperature Records |
www.novinite.com, 04-01-2012 - Four Bulgarian locations registered record high temperatures for the beginning ofJanuary around 2 pm on Tuesday.
The information was reported by the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.
The highest record belongs to the northwestern Danube town of Vidin where at 2 pm the mercury reached 16.6 degrees Celcius, compared to the previous record of 15 degrees, measured on January 3, 1992.
The other records belong to the village of Novo Selo 14.7 degrees, compared to 12.2 in 1992, and Rozhen observatory, located near the town of Blagoevgrad 12.2 degrees , compared to 9.7 in 1984.
Mount Musala, the highest peak in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula, standing at 2925 m, broke its 1984 record of 1.7 degrees as the mercury hit 2.2 degrees.
