Balchik is situated on the Northern Black Sea Coast, 28 km north of Varna and 40 km south of Kavarna – the host of grandiose summer concerts.

The town has been an attractive spot since early antiquity. Its unique natural beauty, history and contemporary romantic feel are a constant source of inspiration for writers, poets and artists. Nearby are the resorts of Albena, Russalka, Golden Sands and the Tuzlata Mud Spa. The Yacht Marina, Queen Maria’s Palace, the Botanical Gardens, History Museum, Art Gallery and Church are all part of the tourist attractions in Balchik. Perched up houses, stone staircases and spouts contribute to the pull for tourists of all ages.

The University Botanical Gardens were established in 1955 on the grounds of the former summer residence to the Romanian queen Maria. Covering an area of 6.5 hectares is a collection of plant species from all over the world – around 2,000 species with an incredible diversity of colours and shapes. The biggest attraction is the collection of large-size cacti presented out in the open. The gardens are the second largest of their kind in Europe, after the ones in Monaco.

In this region there are two golf courses near Balchik and one more right next to Kavarna under construction. The golf course in the "Tabiata" area near Balchik is designed by the British professional golf player Ian Woodsman .He has symbolically marked the official start of the project in 2005. The name of the complex is "Lighthouse Golf Resort" and it will offer a fantastic sea view panorama. The local climate will allow the golf coarse to be operational 10 months out of 12 every year. Another advantage is the close proximity to the "Tuzlata" area which is famous for it's mud and mineral water healing qualities.

Ian is expecting in 4-5 years from now the "Lighthouse Golf Resort" to turn into a world-famous golf coarse and a playground and place for relaxation for some of the best players practicing this aristocratic sport.

The other two complexes near Kavarna and Balchik are projects of the world-famous golf coarse designer and golf professional Garry Player. The golf course near Balchik is called "Black Sea Rama" and covers area of about 996 000 square meters.
